Mike Southgate has joined Hiscox London Market as Divisional Director for Marine and Energy. Formerly at Canopius syndicate where he was the Global Head of Marine, Energy and Construction and a member of the Group Underwriting Committee, Southgate began his career as a Hull underwriter at Sturge syndicate before moving into a variety of roles at Aon, Swiss Re and Montpelier syndicate where he was Joint Active Underwriter.
Commenting on his new position, Southgate says: “I am excited to be joining such an admired business as Hiscox and especially pleased to be working with such a talented group of people within the Marine and Energy division. We have some fantastic business and are well placed to lead and influence in all of the markets in which we operate.”
Heading up the division in London, Southgate reports to Paul Lawrence, Chief Underwriting Officer at Hiscox London Market, who comments: “With his vast experience and technical expertise, Mike will be a real asset to us as we continue to lead the way in the marine and energy market.”
